Since Cinnamon and Mate editions have been separated:
Is it still safe to use both DE? I have both of them installed even though my system is "LMDE MATE Edition" since UP5.
I don't want to uninstall neither Cinnamon or Mate.
Both are working now, but I wonder if it won't cause any problems in future.

Re: Cinnamon + Mate

you don't need to uninstall any of the DE's (actually you can add more if you want) and if/when a pkg conflict may occur because of that has to be dealt as a bug
Re: Cinnamon + Mate
Yes, I've changed LMDE to LMDE-MATE just because I felt it is what I should do with UP5 (but I will revert back to just LMDE if old package is still in repository and still "legal" ).zerozero wrote:because you have mint-info-debian-mate installed most probablymy system is "LMDE MATE Edition"
[/code] and tbh leave it as-is you only need one meta-info-"DE" pkg installed.

Thanks for answer, that was exactly what I wanted to hear
I'm an XFCE user for 2 years on suse and like it a lot, but I think MATE is better. At least for me. Mate, Compiz and Cinnamon were main reasons why I came to Mint (the other being rolling distro - Tumbleweed is a joke). I will continue to use xfce with LMDE on my home server, though.axel668 wrote: I'd recommend XFCE
On destkop I will eventually move on to cinnamon, but today it is nowhere as stable or good as MATE+Compiz (mate without compiz is nothing to write home about).
Although it already has some fancy features (I like the new sound menu and notification system for example).
It's a pity gnome developers screwed G3 so much.
