ok i will try to be as short and sweet as possible i cannot get xrandr to work
i will do this xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1024x600 --scale 1.00x1.25
but the mouse will not go out the orignal 1024x600 range though i can still see the other can someone help

Yes, that happens since Mint 12 (Ubuntu 11.10), there are several bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/883319

It's not a bug, it's by design they say...
At the time there were two solutions, downgrade or a patch. Both could be found on the bug report. It's almost a year since I last looked at the problem so things could be different.
