Terminal does not work [solved]

Post by seeley »

Hi!
After having created a live USB with PartedMagic/ Unetbootin I installed LMDE 201204 64 bit. DESKTOP: Cinnamon.
After the latest Update (I followed all hints) neither Terminal nor Root Terminal work: no cursor (to type a command) appears.
Any idea?

Edit:
Changing session: On MATE no problem with Terminal.

Hi!
No success with:
1. removing and reinstalling terminal,
2. formatting root and home partitions, fresh installation (another language).

Edit:
Same problem with kernel 3.2.0.3 and 3.2.0.2

I know ditto-heads aren't a lot of use - but, Ditto!

My terminals have no cursor, nothing that I type shows on the terminal screen, and typing commands seem to have no result. su enter does not cause the terminal to ask for a password, nor does sudo -s Other commands seem to have no effect at all. Terminals are apparently dead!

EDIT: I've just finished installing the Mate desktop. Terminals work as expected on Mate! I was on the Classic desktop when the terminals weren't working. I should probably check the Cinnamon desktop - maybe I will later!

in cinnamon can you see if this >> http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 73#p631249 works and fixes the terminal
also make sure mint-themes is installed

Hi!
Thank you, zerozero!
Mint-themes is installed. But I can't use the Cinnamon terminal, and I don't know what to do.

does this:
sackofspuds wrote: For anyone else with the terminal issue, a solution is to go into Edit / Profiles / Default / Colours, deselect Use colours from system theme and select the Built-in scheme Black on white.
has any effect on cinnamon's terminal?
