Hi there. Im new here, as you can obviously see. Im new to linux in general and everyone says Mint is a good place to start. :) Im running Linux Mint 13 - Mate.
So far my only question is what I should turn off for my startup Applications.
So far this is what starts up:

You can safely disable:
Desktop sharing
Check for New Hardware drivers
mintUpdate
mingUpload
mintWelcome
Power Manager (if running a PC)
Screensaver
Visual Assistance
Zeitgeist Datahub

Hi exmix, welcome to the Linux Mint forums :D Thanks for joining the forums! I've already seen a few of your posts, I hope we get you up to speed a bit :wink: sagirfahmid3 gives a good list of what can be disabled, though note that mintUpdate is the Update Manager and disabling that means you don't get an alert then there are security updates to install for your computer (the little shield icon on the panel). Recommend you leave it. I have a list of services you can disable here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 77#p600177

Be sure also to check out the Community website (tutorials, hardware and software reviews, ideas). You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application XChat IRC. You will automatically get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.
