Horribly slow installation.

Post by Morgan Krieg »

I decided to switch to LMDE today and I'm installing it and I have a problem. Two hours have passed and I'm around 30%, the install is progressing extremely slowly.
How is it even possible?

no, definitely this is not normal, lmde's installer might not be the faster kid in the block :D but it takes far less than that:
- without internet connection i timed around 13 min not long time ago;
- with internet will depend on the internet speed because it has to query the repos to download and configure FF and TB locales.
(all this will vary of course according to the hardware used)

Several factors come to mind. Did you check the iso md5sum before burning it to disk or USB stick? Which did you use? Computers vary and so do DVD readers and USB sticks. What did you use to burn the installer? Have you tried another?

IIRC I used k3b. I don't remember the speed.

I have noticed something seriosly bizzarre. Clicking around the installer window - highlighting text or opening a menu, causes the installation to progress singificantly faster - with visually visible progress O_o .
