ID 148f:2573, Ralink RT2501 Wireless USB, RT73. Problem.

Post by Dredge »

Hi. I've recently installed for the first time Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon 32 bit. When installing this OS from an usb I was connected to the internet by an ethernet cable, after installing and booting I ran update manager, then I tried to use my ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501/RT2573 Wireless USB Adapter. Using Network Manager Applet I tried to log into my wpa2 wireless connection, which I'd got many troubles to connect. At first, it randomly "tried" to connect poping up messages like "WirelessNetwork Disconnected" and then loading wireless connections and then disconnecting again, then my connection went out from the applet and it just stopped and did nothing. After looking in every forum on the net, I found no answer. I tried blacklisting, reinstalling the driver (which I couldn't and didn't, cause the rt73 driver doesn't build in newer kernels), and other things I don't remember which didn't worked out. After that, I just unplugged the usb and plugged it into another usb port, and after some time passed it randomly worked and connected to my connection, badly it didn't last. After 5 minutes it just poped that "Wireless Network Disconnected" and stopped working. It seems I can get it to work sometimes by plugging and unplugging it, but it keeps not working properly.

OS: Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon 32 bit.
Kernel: 3.2.0-23
Adapter: 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501/RT2573 Wireless USB Adapter
Driver Installed: rt73usb
Wireless Encryption: WPA2

I don't know what's wrong on this, my other devices are runing cool n smooth. I've searched for an anwser not only on this forum but on the wide web, and it seems I can't get a fixing answer. Help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Try entering in a terminal

Code: Select all

echo "options rt73usb nohwcrypt=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rt73usb.conf
Reboot and see if it helps?

Hi, thanks for the reply!
I did what you said, then rebooted. From the original usb port I got no changes, from the usb port that occasionally works out, I got it to connect, but I had no internet connection at all.

I'm actually connected in the machine through and ICS from a laptop, tested what you said with the ICS ethernet cable unplugged and only the usb wifi adapter running.

Thanks anyway! Appreciate the support.

This thread is still open. Any advice or support in how making my usb WiFi work? Thanks.

Edit:
Hi. Apparently it seems I can connect to my modem now, but I can't connect to the internet at all.
