Names James,
I from Colorado, and currently work in End User support for DHS.... been using Ubuntu Linux off and on since 2005, with the occasion of testing and playing with various Live CD's ( PC Linux, DSL, Fedora, Knoppix, Puppy, PLHAK, and the list goes on). Linux has seemed to be a love/hate thing with me... I can install it and use it for a few months then I always have some stupid reason to go back to windows. I still love my Windows 7 PC for gaming, but that soon may change with the support of STEAM on the way!....
Currently I am running Mint 13 XFCE on:
Dell Optiplex GX260
Pentium 4 2.4GHz
1GB Ram
40 GB HDD
Seems to run Acceptable on the default install using 2GB of SWAP, but that may change...
Anyhow... HELLO and I look forward to asking noob questions as I continue to explore the world of linux and absorb more knowledge...

Re: Brand Spankin New to Mint
Welcome aboard! Here's an Idea if you feel froggie, why not compress a swapfile on your ram with the zram module in the kernel. It will still go to your swap partition as needed but it sometime helps make things a bit snappier. Have a look and see what you think http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/150355/#p150355
I'm using it on my netbook with Xfce
