LMDE boot process so slow.. suggestion to speedup?

I think that debian based supposed to be faster than ubuntu based, but somehow, my boot process took soo long.. dmesg report 73sec, and add the KDE load, from grub to usable desktop, it need ~2 minutes.. sigh.. I really need suggestion here..

When they/we say Debian is a faster system it is BUT in the context of running and resources used. As far as the 'Boot' process it self it is relativelly slower.
1. The most meaningful things you can do are use a Runtime manager (I like BUM, but I believe theirs one in the default LMDE install also) and turn off unneeded services (blutooth, cron, cups(printing), sane (Scanning), ect) if you don't use or use seldomlly then they'll only start/load as needed (OR NEVER!).
2. Besides that also modify startup and session apps ect.
3. May want to try lighter DE (Xfce, LXDE) or use a WM only solution (openbox, icewm ect.) tho won't speed up boot as much as think (boot is the system stuff mainly then a small percentage devoted to the DE/session)

Hopefully Debian will get some of the enhancements some other debian based distro already utilise (BFS scheduler sysmd (or similiar) for more concurrent processes happening in boot. Mint custom kernel?

thanks jjaythomas i tried BUM, disable some services, applied some tips from debian wiki and now I think my boot process is better
I've read several article about systemd, and when Debian remove the essential flag removed from sysvinit, I'll give it a try..

You could also try instaling the package readahead-fedora. It's in the repositories. Don't be put off by the name; it works fine on a Debian-based system. It reduces my boot-time from over one minute to about 35 seconds, from hitting the power button to a working desktop.

Forgot about that one (used on Xubuntu few years back) doesn't help much on current 'Buntu's Boxes'.
on LMDE (I use SWIFT Linux with Xfce so officially a LMDXish (mongrel) Still shaves couple seconds from boot (still Xubuntu faster, but not by much)

Debian going systemd would be the best way... maybe after 7.0 goes gold, it will come to sid and testing and make it into LMDE.

I should look into readahead-fedora, though.
