hi
I've just updated my LMDE xfce following the instructions at http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2170
two issues:
a) (solved) X was not working... even if I deselected the update of the packages relevant to the graphic side of the system, I had to reinstall the ATI proprietary drivers, revert the default xorg.conf to my (previous saved) version, enabling xinerama on 4 monitors ... and then everything went ok.. apart:
b) the desktop background remains stick on the default LMDE, on all monitors: the setting manager has no effect
anyone could help me in this?
thanks a lot
rosanna

ohh nautilus doesn't care if it is on xfce or gnome, it just takes over
try to run it with the flag and see if you see any changes
try to run it with the
Code: Select all
nautilus --no-desktop

Dittoohh nautilus doesn't care if it is on xfce or gnome, it just takes over
Use 'Task Manager/System monitor' to see if nautilus running or try getting into settings>window manager and/or settings>window manager tweaks.
if can't 'xfwm4 knocked out (run from terminal and re-save session).

Re: fixed desktop background after upgrade
rosanna, let's try to get this done
1- you have nautilus installed, right?
2- in a xfce DE you probably don't need it at all? or do you have any use for it? (probably you weren't even aware that it was there)
3- remove nautilus it won't hurt a bit and at least we'll know if the issue comes from there
4- anytime (if not happy with the end result) you can re-install it again (but why should you do it i wonder)

[SOLVED] Re: fixed desktop background after upgrade
thanks to all your posts, i've been able to solve this issue
yes, the problem was nautilus, putting its hands on the desktop...: for just a second at the X boot, the customized backgrounds are on, and the next moment they revert to the default... AND in the meantime a nautilus windows appears
i've tried to remove nautilus from the "autostart" group... bu it was not present... (and in effect i didn't set it... and i did not even install nautilus directly.. thunar is enough, for me)... but looking at the autostart list, i found "dropbox", that actually was installed by me, together with its nautilus plugin....
so, removing dropbox from the autostart was enough to solve the problem, even without uninstalling nautilus.... so i can maintain the dropbox-nautilus integration, simply executing dropbox when i need it...
thanks for all the suggestions!!!!
