I tried a few of the methods here, and I tried right from the Java site and it never works.
I got java here http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_m ... ?locale=en
I got the install instructions here http://www.java.com/en/download/help/li ... nstall.xml
I hope some one can set me straight?
Thanks Bob

Re: How do I install Java?
I made an install script just to do this.
See the thread: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 3&t=114316
The 3rd party repo is easier, but some people don't lie using 3rd party repos. I would personally rather just install it myself directly from the package, thus the reason for making the script.

Re: How do I install Java? [SOLVED]
I know it's solved but in case you want to do it the hard way without using any third party repo etc, you may want to follow the instructions here:
