how to install mp3 firefox plugin <SOLVED>

Post by gauravjuvekar »

Firefox is unable to play mp3 audio. Eg. go to http://music.nokia.com and try and play the 30sec playback for any track. Also, http://www.mintcast.org/2012/08/episode ... -hoogland/ says "Your browser does not support the audio element." below the video below Tip

Nokia website is playing back fine here. Do you have any content block add-ons installed? Like NoScript, Adblock, Flashblock or any similar?

Does mp3 audio play back work on other websites, or for files stored on your computer?

You can check in Firefox when you go to Add-ons, on the Plugins tab, whether you have the following plugins installed and enabled. These are the default for Linux Mint 13.
  • DivX Browser Plug-In - Gecko Media Player 1.0.4
DivX® Web Player - DivX Web Player version 1.4.0.233
    mplayerplug-in is now gecko-mediaplayer 1.0.4 - Gecko Media Player 1.0.4
QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.6 - The Totem 3.0.1 plugin handles video and audio streams.
    QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.9 - Gecko Media Player 1.0.4
    RealPlayer 9 - Gecko Media Player 1.0.4
    Shockwave Flash - Shockwave Flash 11.0 r1
VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 3.0.1) - The Totem 3.0.1 plugin handles video and audio streams.
Windows Media Player Plug-in - Gecko Media Player 1.0.4
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem) - The Totem 3.0.1 plugin handles video and audio streams.
You may also try typing in your address bar in Firefox:

Code: Select all

about:plugins
This will bring you to the detailed paged about your plugins. Search for the text "audio/mp3" (without the quotes). It should be found under the plugin "mplayerplug-in is now gecko-mediaplayer 1.0.4".
