Background wallpapers lost to solid blue background

I have a strange and weird problemo. I have the show desktop under caja disabled. I'm using the wallpaper setting in compiz to display a dif wallpaper on each desktop. For some reason, they have all gone away and changed to a solid blue. Chk'd show desktop, still disabled. Chk'd compiz, the wallpapers are still listed. If I logout and in again they come back, but after about 20 seconds they revert to the blue solid wallpaper. What gives?
