LMDE install on ssd and regular hd-<SOLVED>

Post by rich_jones_1999 »

Okay, I wanted to install LMDE with everything on a 60GB ssd, with the exception of /tmp, /var, and /home. Those three I wanted on a 500GB hard drive.

However, the installer wouldn't let me do that, so I finally just did the install on the ssd.

So, now what I'd like to do, is move those three directories, /tmp, /var, and /home to the 500 GB hard drive.
I apologize if I've missed where this issue has already been posted.

I'm relatively familiar with the old way of setting up /etc/fstab with drive names like /dev/sda1 etc, but this fstab looks much different, so I'm a bit hesitant to just experiment.

I'm not dual booting. Just LMDE is being installed.

I'm not sure it's relevant in this case, but here is my system info:

The installer would have allowed you to do as you wished, but you would have had to manually partition both drives, designating the mount point for each partition.

That is still the simplest way to do what you wish to do, rather than fixing /etc/fstab for mount points and partitions, but if you wish more information on setting up /etc/fstab, see http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/38125/ht ... s-it-work/ .

Manual partitioning is what I've usually done, but the LMDE installer forces you to pick one drive to setup, and when I select the second drive to manually partition with /tmp, /var and /home, it loses the settings on the first drive. Maybe I'm just missing something as I go through the install.

By the way thanks for the link to the site about fstab. It had just enough info for me to find out how to discover the UUIDs of the partitions I wanted to use, using the 'blkid' command.
