Thanks for that link Mock! I'm already on UP5, and quite happy with it, but it's nice to be able to check the status on the migration. It also explains why apt-get update is returning so many errors on the mint repos. I may have to bookmark the page just to be able to check it periodically through the day, but once UP5 is available for general consumption I'll try to write a post for my blog about it. I'm already seeing a nice bit of traffic on my blog about LMDE, which just makes me want to keep writing content about it to give folks reasons to keep coming back.

Q: How can you tell if a new update pack has been released?

A: The server's on fire.

Well, not really on fire, but a significant increase in traffic. This is what it looks like at debian.lth.se (our other mirrors excluded):

16 Sep
Number of requests: 8386
Total size: 8007390737 bytes (7 GB)

17 Sep

For some reason the update on my main system came in later. mint-debian-mirrors has been fixed and works fine on both installations now, thanx.

This does not respect the proxy setting for apt-get?

Code: Select all

liw@mint ~ $ mint-choose-debian-mirror
Current server: 'http://debian.linuxmint.com' (latest)
An error occurred: Failed to connect to 2001:41d0:2:c5a8::1: Network is unreachable
An error occurred: connect() timed out!

Getting same fail from behind corporate proxy --- mirrors tool needs to pay attention to proxy settings,
either from system or specifically from /etc/apt/apt.conf contents.

Ok, we'll try to add support for proxies. Can you confirm it currently fails graciously and doesn't impact the system?

Regarding the failure to work in a 'proxy environment' ...
here's the error message displayed:
"(pgreat@shire) ~/Desktop
$ mint-choose-debian-mirror
Current server: 'http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/linuxmint/debian' (latest)
An error occurred: Failed to connect to 2001:41d0:8:4cc3::1: Network is unreachable
An error occurred: connect() timed out!
An error occurred: connect() timed out!

"

It appears to fail graciously, which is a goodness..

Will the Mint Debian repositories eventually be expanded to match the current mint mirrors? OR is it possible to use current debian mirrors to get the packages?

I use mirror.aarnet.edu.au for the linux mint packages as updates from here are unmetered by my ISP, but the updates I get from the lmde-mirrors aren't.

Hope this make sense guys...

Code: Select all

Hit http://debian.linuxmint.com testing InRelease
E: Release file for http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dists/testing/InRelease is expired (invalid since 89d 18h 42min 20s). Updates for this repository will not be applied.
What have I done wrong?

This is the same for two mirrors, this one and informatique..
