New install of LMDE ?

Hi all,

I have a few questions that I would like some advise on. My wife has decided to install LMDE on her machine but I am not sure what to do after reading about all the update problems, the repositories that have changed, etc. Do I just download the LMDE 201204 DVD and install ? Do I have to change repositories or do I use the default repositories that are on the DVD or do they need to be changed to something different?

I am looking for a easy, problem free install on her computer. Her computer is an HP, dual core 1.6Ghz, with 4 gig of ram, Nvidia graphics card. She mainly uses the computer for Internet surfing, email, listening to a little music sometimes,and and burning a few cd's now and then. She is looking for something that is stable and doesn't need all the latest software, but still want to be able to update to newer versions as they become stable.

Any thoughts, advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

After installing you can update to UP5. The repo are fine.
That's a very good choice. LMDE is stable and easy to use, even if the first hours can be a little bit more touchy than the main edition. Don't hesitate to read the forum and ask question. And enjoy

To get the actual sources list, type in a Terminal:

inxi -r

The output should contain 4 lines containing: a "packages", a "latest", a "latest/security" and a "latest/multimedia". Just read the Update Pack information (in Update Manager), and you're good to go for a few years
But both of you shouldn't restrain yourself about hacking the distro and knowing how it works, using VirtualBox you can happily break and fix it in guest machines without harming your host system

Thank you for your input. Here is the output when I run " inxi -r. Not exactly what you suggest but everything seemed to install alright.

The deb-src are alright, your sources.list is good You should get the updates without problem.
