wireless no longer working on compaq 610 with mint 10.4

Post by KeriD4209 »

Im running linux mint 10, and i set up a media server to run through my ps3. my latptop (compaq 610) died right before i finished, and my wireless no longer works. the icon doesn't show up in my tray, and i cant get it to work any other way without connecting my phone and tethering my cellphone's wireless through that. I did $ sudo get-update and $ sudo get-upgrade, but that didnt help at all. any help would be greatly appreciated. im in the military, and my laptop is the only way i can see my family.
-------------------

i ran $ sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py, and this is what it came up with (while my cell phone was tethered to it. if i need to run it without it connected, just let me know) --

Sorry but this version has been obsolete for some time and no longer supported. Consider upgrading.

For the Broadcom 4312, you need a driver. I suppose you installed the STA driver? That one is not very reliable on 4312. After installing a newer Mint version like 13, please use wired internet to install the firmware-b43-lpphy-installer package from Software Manager, instead of installing the STA driver. You may not be able to install this on Mint 10 since the repository is probably closed.
