Hi folks,
I am a linux newbie but after some research decided to install Linux Mint 13 along side my Windows 7. I freed up some
space and made partitions for boot, home, root and swap file and Linux Mint 13 installed without problems.
I want to upgrade to Mint 14 and was just going to overwrite Mint 13 in the partitions I made for it. My question
is will Mint 14 automatically overwrite only what is in those partitions and leave windows 7 alone?
Appreciate any help.
Curtis

read here first for upgrade tutorial.
Its always good to have separate /home partition, that way, you can install the next OS on the root partition and still have your file(s).

choose the "something else" on the installation process, there you can set the partition to overwrite.gylnne wrote:will Mint 14 automatically overwrite only what is in those partitions and leave windows 7 alone?

Mint 14 is a release candidate, and while it's not likely to clobber your Windows installation, I wouldn't let a RC near anything valuable, namely my data, let alone near win7.gylnne wrote:I am a linux newbie... Really, if something goes wrong you'll be crying for days.

And I also chose the "something else" so I could see the partitions I made for linux 13. But I didn't see any place I can "set"
the partitions to overwrite.
Where is that located?
Thank you.

If you can see your linux partition (and you want to overwrite it with mint14), all you have to do is right click on that partition, then assign it to /. Than way, that linux partition will be formatted and mint 14 will be installed on it.gylnne wrote:I could see the partitions I made for linux 13. But I didn't see any place I can "set"
