Is there any plans to add a feature to mint update (any anywhere else) that allows inplace updating of a mint system between versions?
I understand that there a number of issues that would need to be addressed, like adding creating backups as part of the process, however noting that mint is on a 6 month release cycle and may parts of the distro are under heavy development it would be nice to be able to move up to some of the fixes as soon as they come out with out having to burn a new cd each time (although promting to make an install cd would be a good idea)
prehaps somthing that downloads the ISO and uses that to build the new system?

Re: Mint update - supporting updating between versions?
that blog still does not address the issue I have raised, in fact it suggests i do not upgrade to the latest version.
however in my case by but upgradeing I lose all the work that has been don on dual monitor support that is badly needed on my system, and if i do upgrade using this method all the tweaks that were required to get some things working are lost (including having to enter recovery mode just to get graphics working as by default the gui is corrupt as nomodeset is not added as a boot option)
so including an updater that i can run that the time has been spent to ensure that it runs correctly and leaves you with a useable system would be a much better option that having to start from scratch every time, hell even windows has a upgrade install option!
