Hallo!

I use Linux Mint since version 11. I am very happy with it and its my gate to the linux world.

I was able to solve most problems in the past with google, but today i need to ask the community.

Yesturday i bought a new laptop, a Fujitsu Lifebook E782 with a built-inm lte (4G) modem.

I installed Linux Mint 13 - 64 bit with KDE, everythings works fine, but not the modem!

I dont have experience with this type of components.

I know from the Fujitus datasheet that it is a "sierra wireless gobi 3000" 4G modem.

with "lsusb" i got as result:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1199:68a2 Sierra Wireless, Inc.

In google i found the info 1199 is the vendor id, 68a2 is the product id. I tried a command i have found in the internet to load the device - i had to insert 0x1199 and 0x68a2 into the command... Sorry i cant remember the complete string. The command run for a part of a second and gave no result back to me. I cant determine a change.

In the GUI for the network configuration in KDE (NetworkManager) are the tabs wired, wireless, mobile broadband,vpn and dsl.
All of them are active, only mobile broadband isnt!

What can i do to solve this issue?

I dont know what is the problem, is the modem not active or must it be mounted to a special path,...?

All updates are installed.

i installed vmware and its possible for me to connect the modem to the vm and use it with windows 7.

But not on the linux host....

My mobile broadband modem "LTE Sierra Wireless MC7710" does not run with a linux kernel above 3.6.0. Kernel 3.6.0 can be patched to work with the card.

Don't know if you have gotten this to work by now, but just for reference in case anyone Googles this: That specific issue is only affecting Sony laptops. It's a minor glitch in the sony-laptop rfkill driver and not really related to the Sierra Wireless MC7710 at all. The bug is found and fixed, but the fix will unfortunately not be in 3.8. Sony Vaio users will have to patch or wait for 3.9.

The MC7710 does of course work very well with kernels above 3.6.
