shutdown problem solved
i click shutdown it shuts down to point where theres nothing but a black screen with a blinking minus sign but the pc is still on

sorry for putting it in wrong place its 4.0 main edition gnome .. and also if it means anything for it to install or boot i had to edit boot file and add acpi=off at end

For the live CD?add acpi=off at end
If so add it in the installed version
The solution is along this path

ive allready done that for my install it boots fine i was mentioning i thought might be revelant, its the shutdown thing im trying to cure now

any ideas? my hardware is a abit p35 pro motherboard video card is a ati 1600xt

It's the same type of solution as sometimes needed to get it to boot

another forum posted this since it worked i thought id post it for everyone
modify (as root) /etc/modules
and add the following line at the end of the file:
apm power_off=1 {press ENTER]
then restart the system
