Mint 13 KDE - Clementine troubles [Solved]

Post by Armstrong »

zerozero,
I suppose I need someone to translate everything in this thread into layman's English, however... I am having problems with Clementine. Various elements of it keep disappearing. FWIW, I am using Linux Mint 13 KDE. In some instances, I simply uninstall Clementine and then reinstall it and the problem is solved. More recently, the ability of Clementine to copy files to my portable player is compromised. After highlighting all the files in the playlist to be copied, I will right click the highlighted area, but the line in the dropdown box that says "Copy to Device", is muted and will not function. Is there a fix for this in codes listed above? I solved this problem once with the uninstall/install gambit, but it didn't work the last time I tried. I really like Clementine and would prefer to keep using it, but if I cannot transfer files, it sort of loses its appeal. Thanks for any help!
Slainte,

Armstrong, first i would check what version you have installed and try the update to the latest stable available in the ppa (this is one guide as good as any other http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/clementi ... table.html )

Thanks, zerozero! Sadly, this site's version looks just as the one from the repository did. I still cannot move files to the portable player. Supposedly, though, the installation from the link you provided will allow me to receive updates. I am unsure if my previous installation included this. Perhaps there is a bug yet to be fixed. Regardless, I installed Clementine originally on your recommendation and I have been very happy with it until now. Hopefully, the problem will be resolved shortly.

zerozero,
From "inxi -r", I get the following:

Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-earth.list
deb http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb/ stable main
Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/me-davidsansome-clementine-precise.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/me-davidsansom ... ine/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/me-davidsansom ... ine/ubuntu precise main
Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ precise free non-free
Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mint.list
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ maya main upstream import
Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mozillateam-firefox-next-precise.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/fi ... ext/ubuntu precise main

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ precise partner

From "apt policy clementine", I get the following:

clementine:
Installed: 1.1.0~precise
Candidate: 1.1.0~precise
Version table:
*** 1.1.0~precise 0
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/me-davidsansom ... ne/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
1.0.1+dfsg-1ubuntu2 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages

Not that it is all Greek to me, but, for all intents and purposes, all the above could be written in Cyrillic and I would know as much. Thanks.
Slainte,
Hunter

Edit to add: For whatever reasons or by whatever means, the problem has resolved itself. I guess it's magic!

I love Clementine and I use it as my main music player.

However, I've notice that it its buggy and lacks functionality for managing personal audio devices.

I've found that Rhythmbox works the best for managing an iPod. It's synching works well, and it doesn't mysteriously crash like Clementine does.

So yeah, for music listening I recommend Clementine, but for iPod management, Rhythmbox is better.
