That was an informative overview of the various desktops. Based on your tutorial, I think MATE is a good choice because its lower use of resources and stable basis. I'm curious about KDE and Cinnamon though, and may try them out in the future.

Capture the text and put it in a new tutorial. In fact, I think it would be a great link from the Linux Mint download page itself. The amount of downloads would be better optimized--reduced--if users had a quick way to get a clue about what they're downloading.
But seriously do save it, because it is better than average. It belongs on some wiki.
My desktop runs 64-bit Kubuntu 13.04, my htpc runs 64-bit Linux Mint Nadia Xfce, my answering machine runs 64-bit windows 7, and my laptop runs 64-bit Linux Mint Nadia KDE. Each seems suited to its purpose.
