Ive found if I try to have this enabled cinnamon breaks and does not load correctly.

Ahhh yes but you have to ask the RIGHT question!

If you use the "Separate X Screens" option you have no 3D acceleration so you'll [have to] use Mate or Gnome Classic fallback.
