I wish I could help test this but my laptop has optimus graphics so I need to manually install Bumblebee and my desktop has an Intel video card. I'm going to try to get some linux install on a desktop with NVIDIA graphics, but it doesn't look likely at this point. Regardless, this is a great project and I'm very happy that it works on debian as well as Ubuntu. Thank you Schoelje, and I'm looking forward to seeing this in UP 6 and on the new LMDE ISOs.

and the correct sequence is broken
(i have to say that i usually don't use apt-listbugs but as far as i know unless we explicitly ok'ed the installation/upgrade it will stop if bugs are found)

from previous driver installation and a few times during ddm running a error window would pop-up, like this

as far as i could realize was harmless and had no effect in the drivers installation but it's probably something that you want to look at.

Because python2.7 is needed, it seems best to catch that dependency before installing DDM.

It seems you're missing /etc/lsb-release
If I run this:

You see there is a release version number.
Nadia is on 14, Ubuntu on 12.10, etc.
DDM uses it to decide whether or not PAE is needed.

1- it's not part of the default installation so won't be a major issue (at least not one that we have to deal generally)
2- the blocking behaviour looks kinda random (like all the good bugs )
of course understanding this would be a plus.

Well, the code will simply continue checking for PAE, so it's not really an issue, I suppose.

I really hate those bugs...solving those always consumes an enormous amount of time.

Valid points... Actually I (and I assume) many others tracking SID use SMXI to install later version drivers/and perhaps Liquorix kernels. If your going to be more 'bleeding edge' might as well go all in..
Same goes for apt-listbugs (doubt typical user would use it). Not really necessary with Update Packs.

It seems that for the general user DDM is working fine.
The bugs that are left are only found by playing around and trying to break stuff...so, please, keep on doing that!

In your case, only Arch seems to be able to support your graphics card, so no, you don't need to continue testing DDM.

I ended up reinstalling LMDE KDE to fix an ffmpeg problem that broke Electric Sheep (an update from deb-multimedia introduced errors in rendering that I oculdn't seem to fix by rolling updates back) and I'm having some problems with my Nvidia drivers. I did get the PAE kernel installed on my lenovo T61 and I thought I had the Nvidia drivers installed (Quadro NVS 140M/PCIe/SSE2) but ended up getting a terminal login upon reboot. I booted with the non-PAE kernel and realized there was an updated DDM so I snagged it and installed it, but I still ended up with video driver issues.

I ultimately ended up having to run

from the terminal (from the LMDE Nvidia driver install thread) to be able to boot into KDM but it seems I'm not able to use all of KDE's desktop effects. This is the notice I'm getting from KDE's desktop effects dialog:

KWin Window Manager
The following desktop effects could not be activated:

• Blur
• Cover Switch
• Desktop Cube
• Desktop Cube Animation
• Startup Feedback

The log that was created the last time I tried installing the drivers with DDM is in my dropbox. Any ideas on what's going wrong?

Did you reboot into PAE before you installed the Nvidia drivers?
From the log file I see you installed nvidia-glx for the 486 kernel, not for PAE...

I did install the PAE kernel first. I used the 486 kernel because I was stuck at the console when I rebooted after installing the kernel. Now that I think about it I suspect I really need to address my issue to the Nvidia driver thread, but my issues did start with DDM.

You manually installed the drivers DDM would have (or did).
What if....

1. Boot into PAE
2. You purge the following first:

   sudo apt-get purge nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel-dkms

3. Be sure xorg.conf is out of the way:

   sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak

4. Install the drivers again:

   sudo apt-get install  nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel-dkms

5. Blacklist Nouveau:

   sudo echo "blacklist nouveau" > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf

6. Reboot and pray
