Hi all,
after rebooting my laptop while trying to solve the sound problem I had a very bad suprise ...
Black screen while trying to load the X server ....Unable to access the consoles (ALT - Fn)
If installing the driver works perfectly with 3 proprietary Nvidia drivers or with the debian packages , after reboot these drivers won't work ...
I 've got some Xorg traces saying:
Error no device found
Error no screen found
Xorg FAQ mentions these entries. But FAQ says that it means:
- incorrect driver in xorg.conf ( it's not the case because i've tried with the one useable with my Squeeze install on the same box and I've tried without config file, same result)
- unmanaged card , my Quadro K100M is one of the several cards listed as supported and doing a manual startx works well....launching mdm manually works too...
So I don't see any valuable option ....
I've checked the NVIDIA.bin to check how the module was loaded but I was unable to see insmod or modprobe in this script...
Your help is required
Regards
jerome

Re: Lenovo W530 & Nvidia driver
Is that an indefinite black screen with no flashing cursor, or simply a delay with a flashing cursor?
You say that both mdm and startx still work, but from where? After a recovery boot fro GRUB?

Hi,
thqnks for your answer..
In fact this is an infinite white screen..I m trapped, the box is just available through ssh...
Dropping drivers enables me to get access to the machine back... Then I can put the drivers back and startx manually or use mdm...
I am not a specialist from udev but is it not a possible solution to this problem? I can imagine that (may be) LMDE is confused by a bad id of the graphics card and may try to access the other graphics card included in the machine (intel chipset) while this chipset has been desactivated into the BIOS (UEFI tool)?
Using a special rule into udve may fix this problem ? It 's just a guess I am not a kernel specialist and don't know all the internals of these things..
But my logic suggests me :
- it's not a kernel related problem (same result with different kernel)
- it's not a driver problem (same result with 4 different proprietray or free drivers)
- it's not a mdm problem (mdm can start the display immediatly after installing the driver)
Other source of the problem may be related to X himself ? But X starts too (directly or through mdm)...
Graphics card works well under Squeeze so not an hardware problem...
I am confused by the 2 contexts:
- works for a fresh install
- don't work after booting
What is the difference between these 2 contexts and how to translate this difference to solve my problem..
Kind regards
jerome

Have you tried typing in your userid (enter) password(enter) and see if it is white text on white background? If that works, I have seen reports of that from mdm, but lightdm seems to work okay.
