I've lost all sound from Mint Maya MATE edition. Installed on Lenova/IBM Thinkpad. I have tried Exaile, Youtube and VLC, which are my usual media programs. All worked fine before.

I've had a look through most other similar posts. Purged and reinstalled ALSA and Pulseaudio. I have installed ALSA mixer and pavc, as recommended and not found anything. Pulse audio does seem to be picking up the signal, as the bar is moving in time to music. I have also changed settings in MATE sound panal/applications, again with no result.
Does anyone have any ideas.

Did sound work from the installation DVD / USB?
