Successfully Upgraded XP Partition to Windows 8

As an experiment, I decided to take advantage of Microsoft's current upgrade price and upgrade my Windows XP partition to Windows 8 Pro. I have to say that the upgrade was successful and without issue. My LMDE partition is totally intact and dual booting works fine. The only thing is that the Grub menu lists the Windows partition as XP still, but that doesn't matter to me.

I would like to be totally on Linux (which I use most of the time), but need Windows for certain applications ..... mostly media. So for those who have been considering the upgrade, it can be done rather painlessly

Inside Linux Mint Debian Edition launch a terminal window and run

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub

This should make Grub detect the changed Windows version and display it correctly on next reboot.

I, like you, use Windows but rarely, perhaps LMDE 90% to Windows 10%. I've been considering the upgrade, mainly because I "repair" many Windows machines and they will be popping up shortly.
What do you think of the new UI?
