Acer AO722 Wireless Issues

Post by patrickm129 »

Hi all,
I have upgrading to LM 14 Cinnamon (and am loving it :D ); however, I have encountered an issue with my wireless driver. Its speed has been a fraction of what it was prior to my upgrade (btw I did a clean install). I have also noticed that the wireless crashes every 30 minutes or so; however, I can correct this by turning my wireless card off/on.

I do not believe that this is a networking issue because while my Acer Aspire One AO722 was having problems with LM 14's default driver, other devices on my LAN worked properly.

I have Googled for solutions but have not found any. On another form, someone asked for the output of "lspci -vnn | grep -a4 -i net" so here it is:

Code: Select all

00:18.7 Host bridge [0600]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 12h/14h Processor Function 7 [1022:1719]

	I/O ports at 2000 [size=128]
	Capabilities: <access denied>
	Kernel driver in use: atl1c
	Kernel modules: atl1c

07:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4727] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Foxconn International, Inc. Device [105b:e042]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 19
	Memory at f0100000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
	Capabilities: <access denied>
I hope you all are having a Happy Turkey Day! Thank you for your time and hopefully someone else may find your advice useful!
:)

You may need to install the Broadcom STA driver to get wifi working better.

How would I do that? Or in terminal?

I figured it out. The driver is available here: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php

You can install it from Additional Drivers (Mint 13 and before) or the last tab in Software Sources (Mint 14). That's easier than downloading Broadcom's package from the website.

I wonder if anyone has tried the new bios v 1.11 (13-NOV-2012) for this little fellow...and report if some of the issues exposed here are resolved...

You need to enable broadcom-STA proprietary Drivers.
I also installed BIOS 1.11, all works fine with 4GB DIMM.
