Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
why would you want to? that is the whole reason to use cinnamon to get away from unity. If you want to use unity stick with ubuntu
Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
It's easier to install Cinnamon in Ubuntu 12.10.

Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
how is it easier? installing with mint is alot earier it basically installs itself
Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
Cinnamon is less intrusive on 12.10 than the whole of Unity is on Mint 14 - Cinnamon is also a smaller size and smaller collection of packages than Unity.
Both are bad ideas. Dual booting is the way to go.

Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
Guys, your replies reminds me the good old days of linux forums... why would someone want to install Unity on Mint 14?
Because it's possible and because why not?!
Shame on you with the dual-boot and the stick to Ubuntu answer. Mint is a very good base system, but I mysel have Unity on it as well, because it is definately a newish and intuitive system.
To install:
Basically this will be enough to start with.

Code: Select all
apt-get install unity gnome-session
Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
I was wondering if it was better to go Ubuntu Unity install and just add Cinnamon.
Or Better to Install Cinnamon and add Unity. Could be wrong but doing the first method seems cleaner more completer Unity?
Just curious. As sticking myself with Cinnamon as don't like Unity.

Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
I'm glad I found this posting; if I could further the conversation a little...
I am currently triple-boot (well, quad- technically, since I stille have 11.04 clogging some drive space) Vista, Ubuntu 12.04, and Mint 14 Cinnamon; all 64-bit.
I didn't like what I've heard about 12.10, so I thought I would try Mint, which I do like-- Cinnamon is a nice DE, but I also actually like the Unity dock-- it gives me quick-launch buttons, which also tell me what programs are currently running, even in other desktops, and I can jump to those desktops quickly by hitting that button.
I also like desktop cube, but I guess I am out of luck, there. :/
So, is there a Unity-like dock that is better suited for Cinnamon?

Try politeness; people will like you for it.

Your best bet is to install Docky or Cairo Dock.
Re: how to install unity in linuxmint 14 cinnamone
Hm... I used Docky on 11.04, if I recall correctly. What is Cairo like?
