Mint 14 64bit Cinnamon lotsa Problems

Post by theoldfellow »

1) It does't start x, I have to log-in at the CLI and startx. Before that Alt-CTRL-F7 shows:

mountall: plymouth command failed
mountall: disconnected from plymouth

2) Having started by startx, I immediately ran the updater. Which failed on openjdk-7-jre-headless, and leaves 3 brocken packages. The error message says to use the "Broken" filter for find them. The updater doesn't have a Broken Filter (this refers to Synaptic, I think). Anyway used Synaptic to find the brocken packages, but it refuses to remove them or otherwise.

Suggestions?

TOF.

You are supposed to Fix the broken packages by finishing the install process. Either using Synaptic menu >> Edit >> Fix Broken Packages >> Apply or sudo apt-get -f install in a terminal window to do that.

So why doesn't the update manager say that?
Mint is not supposed to need a degree in apt.
Not an auspious return for me.

Here via google.

The "fix broken packages" seems to no longer be in synaptic.

Going to try

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get -f install

Lets see if it breaks the system..
