Lagging Firefox (15-17)

I'm on Maya / Mate and since Firefox 15 I've experienced lag so heavy it was impossible to even try solve the problem within firefox, because it just wouldn't even react to anything. No problem, there's a fallback to Firefox 11 in the repositories, so everything was fine... up till yesterday.

That's when Adblock Plus 2.2 decided to forget all my filter options... and kept forgetting them for every restart of firefox. I can't even load my backups, but they work just fine with the newest version, 17. But that takes me back to the heavy lagging.....

... any ideas?

The problem with adblock+ not remembering my filters solved itself today. Not sure what exactly was causing the trouble, though. The lagging issue with newer versions of firefox remains unsolved.
