Are there any packages available that can burn a ISO image to a blue-ray DVD ?
and also other types of images or data.

Try K3B. It's an allround burning tool similar to Nero under windows.
When you install it, don't get scared by all the extra packages it requires. These are packages K3B needs to run in a Gnome3 environment.
