LinuxMint ..Username & Wireless...Help
OK I downloaded the : linuxmint-201204-mate-cinnamon-dvd-32bit
On to my laptop all went well I think ....
Once it installed and told to reboot and remove disc before shut down I did...
Now....
Few days later I decided to try it (long story in why I didnt restart after I switched it off)
Its asking me for Username and Password ??
I forgot my username and password.. is there a way to change or fix this as I am new to this OS
Thanks

Re: LinuxMint ..Username & Password...Help
If you know your username, you can the following steps to boot to a console mode and from there reset your password: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 87#p621487
To find out your username, follow the above guide, but before step 5 do:
That will respond with a list of username, probably just the one for your account. Then use that username for step 5.
To find out your username, follow the above guide, but before step 5 do:
Code: Select all
ls /home

Re: LinuxMint ..Username & Password...Help
Ah, you could have tried adding it to the end of the line starting with "linux". Adding a new line doesn't work, indeed.
Re: LinuxMint ..Username & Password...Help
No. The newest version is Linux Mint 14: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2216. That one is supported till April 2014. You could also pick Linux Mint 13, which is the long-term support release that has support till April 2017. http://www.linuxmint.com/oldreleases.php
Re: LinuxMint ..Username & Password...Help
Thanks for the link.. will download 13 and see how it goes
Which v13 is the best to choose from?

Re: LinuxMint ..Username & Password...Help
Ah, another user just let me know that linuxmint-201204-mate-cinnamon-dvd-32bit is in fact LMDE. So if you wanted that version, then yes that is the latest version of LMDE. Once you install it you can get update pack 5, which was released in September. Update pack 6 would be available in December probably, or January. Also at that time there will be a new ISO released for LMDE, with this update pack 6 included.
If you want to use Linux Mint Main Edition, the one based on Ubuntu, then figuring from the above you would probably download the 32 bit version of Cinnamon or MATE. (Edit: so "Cinnamon (32-bit)" or "MATE (32-bit)".) Cinnamon is the desktop environment being developed by the Linux Mint developers. It uses modern technology (GNOME 3) but offers a classical desktop, with a ordered menu, a taskbar with list of open windows, and so on. MATE on the other hand is a fork of GNOME 2; very stable but looking perhaps not as modern. It's a personal choice, hard to tell you which you should use. Try them from their installation ISOs.
