How can I help?
hi folks. after a week of exploring linux mint 13, i found it so useful that i made it as my main os. now i want to return something to the open source community (not financially though, not for now) maybe by developing some applications or taking part on upcoming projects. i just want to know what programming language/s should i familiarize myself with and how to implement it (i'm fairly conversant with vb.net, but i know i can't use it here). thank you.

For the various way you can get involved with Linux Mint, see here: http://www.linuxmint.com/getinvolved.php. If you have Cinnamon, you can write applets with Javascript and CSS. All the applets you can download from http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets you can extract and look at their source code for examples.
Most Mint developed tools like the Software Manager and such are written in Python. You can find all the source code here: https://github.com/linuxmint.
