External hard drive display

just installed mint 14 MATE and have the following problem...

upon signin my two external WD hard drives display msg saying that drive is already mounted and cannot be mounted again...
then the contents of the drives are displayed and I have to close the files b/4 doing anything ....

the same thing happens in Ubuntu 12.10 also...

is this a bug or am I doing something wrong....

do not have this problem in Ubuntu 12.04 or Mint 13...

Try this:

Open Control Center, File Management, Media. Uncheck the box for the line Browse media when inserted.

Works when I have DVD's in the trays when booting up. Hopefully applies to your external hard drives.
