Search function on this forum does not work for me
I think I am getting old
It is impossible for me to just type a word in de search box and then get an answer.
Is there a special trick for this?

Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
You can use your favourite Internet search engine instead. Just add the phrase "site:forums.linuxmint.com" (without the quotes) to your search. So let's say you wanted to find out about "upgrade kernel", you would use your Internet search engine and search for "upgrade kernel site:forums.linuxmint.com". This usually searches easier.
Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
Try this from google search
Lets say you want to search for nvidia
Enter this in google
Works best for me
Lets say you want to search for nvidia
Enter this in google
Code: Select all
nvidia "site:http://forums.linuxmint.com"
Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon
Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
Thanks for the tips.
This means that the search function on the forum is actually not working as it should?

Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
It's working as it should, it is just limited in functionality.
Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
For me 100% limited, I can not use it at all.....
Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
It's not though, is it. Search for the word "kernel" for example, works fine. But you can't search for (only) words shorter than 5 characters and you can't search for a select set of very common words (like "linux" or "mint"), as that would just give you a useless amount of search results. Try a little more specific search and it will happily search for you.
Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
I find it ranks between very limited and useless.
I do much, much better with a Google search.
I suspect the Powers To Be are putting all their effort into continually building Mint.
Many different forums I belong to have very limited search functions.
Again Google does a lot.
If you do not like being tracked by Google, use privatelee.qrobe.it

Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
I'm fairly certain this still works because I just did it myself on Mint14:
Searching Mint Forums - A Better Way: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25794
You will have your own search engine pointing to mints forum but using google search instead of the forums search.

Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
Try Mint menu. Aint that long enough?
Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
If that was directed at me - you're welcome.frsu wrote:Try Mint menu. Aint that long enough?
I use that method all the time for all sorts of forums. Just replace "forums.linuxmint.com" with the forum url for Ubuntu or Debian or whatever to create another *.src file and way you go.:
<search
name="Debian Forums"
method="GET"
action="http://www.google.com/search"
queryCharset="utf-8"
>
<input name="q" user>
<input name="sitesearch" value="forums.debian.net">
</search>

Re: Search function on this forum does not work for me
Hi Altair4 Was not directed to you
Your method is to difficult for me. Will have to study your solution and the link to see if I can make this work for me. It would be nice if the search function could work like on other forums I visit. Maybe someday.....
