I have to say if you have to have a Menu (start in widows) button, we have a good setup here. That said. Is there anyway with the MATE/Cinnamon setup to get the old school (I am very new to linux but like the old school layout) of Applications, Places and System with the t-bird and Firefox icons there?

I do not care if they are on the top or bottom. I just like the idea of having one less click to get to where I want.

Re: Old School Menu
I changed this to ask one one of my three questions because I was able to get past the other problems I had and did not want to seem like I was posting the same thing over and over.
Re: Old School Menu
On MATE, just right-click the panel and select to add an item to the panel. Then add one of the other available menus. I can't recall right now which one is the classic GNOME menu, but it is available by default.
For Cinnamon you can download and install and applet for that: http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/51

"Menu bar - a custom menu bar" - is the one with Applications, Places, System.xenopeek wrote:On MATE, just right-click the panel and select to add an item to the panel. Then add one of the other available menus. I can't recall right now which one is the classic GNOME menu ...

Re: Old School Menu
Yep he beat me to it as that give you the old 3 different old style menus. Right click task bar panel edit mode. left click to remove old one. Add those position and turn off panel edit mode and done.
Tho I'm liking Compact menu 1.0 http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/104
Gets rid of power buttons which have applet for that. And favorite apps left side and brings search bar down to bottom. Liking better.

Re: Old School Menu
WOW so so cool. You can change the look and feel of it in so many ways.
I also found that if I do the "Custom Application Launcher" I can put my firefox down there with whatever icon I want. I was going to download an app called "Favorites 1.2.0" but I found I can make my own Favorites folder and it is so easy.
THANKS love it.
