[SOLVED] No sound on Mint Debian

Post by bustard »

I installed mint debian and updated it.

Things look good except for sound - there is none.

cat/proc/asound/version gives:
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.

cat /proc/asound/cards gives:

0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf7c10000 irq 42
1 [U0x46d0x992 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x992
USB Device 0x46d:0x992 at usb-0000:00:14.0-4, high speed

cat /proc/asound/devices

cat /proc/asound/timers

I installed gnome-alsamixer. Trying to run it gives:

(gnome-alsamixer:8072): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private: assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed

(gnome-alsamixer:8072): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private: assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed
Segmentation fault

I re-installed it but got the same result.

My kernel is 3.2.0-3-amd64

The cpu is I5 Ivy Bridge

Any ideas?

Edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf as root:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

And add the following line at the end of the file:
options snd-hda-intel model=generic

Save, reboot
That worked! Thank you kindly.
