Mint 14 Nadia -system hangs on startup

Post by chauhan19 »

Hi

I just installed Mint 14 Nadia alongside my Windows 7.Installation was successful and at no point did I got any error. But after installation if I select the Mint OS on startup and press Enter ,it just throws me a blank screen and doesn't take me to the home screen. If I restart my system using the power button and select Mint OS again then Mint boots up and takes me to the home screen although the startup time in this case is also quite high (2-3mts).This problem keeps happening everytime on system startup and selecting the Mint OS [In short, if I want to launch Mint OS then I need to restart my system 2-3 times :-( ].There is no such problem if I select my existing Windows 7 OS.Please suggest what can I try to get rid of this problem or what can be the reason?

I have a similar problem. A "work around" for me is.
#bring up a console, if it doesn't work then forget about this note
ALT-CNT F1
#log in
# find the process number of the X process
sudo ps aux|egrep X
#kill it
sudo kill -HUP process_number
----------------------------
Magic happens and logon widow appears.
Since this works it must be a timing or init thing. The only error message I found was in dmesg while in the console.
[ 29.576871] radeon 0000:01:00.0: fence driver on ring 0 use gpu addr 0x0000000010000000 and cpu addr 0xffff8801330f8000
[ 29.576900] [drm] radeon: ring at 0x0000000010001000

[ 40.047501] [drm:radeon_ib_ring_tests] *ERROR* radeon: failed testing IB on GFX ring (-35).
------------------------------------
There are tons of reasons on the web for all this so I will just wait for an update.
I would file a bug report except my system is a little strange and I don't know where to post. I have filed reports before for other OS but never gotten a good response.
OTOH: when mint is running everything is just the way I want.

Thanks a lot!!!!I t did work..But still ,rather than using this option to login, I would prefer a fix for this bug.
