Creating a multi-boot DVD with different flavors of Linux

Post by 7heD4rkKnigh7 »

I am curious if anyone can confirm what the primary conflict is when attempting to create a multi-boot DVD with multiple flavors of Linux? With my limited knowledge at the moment, my best guess is that lots of different distros are competing for the same path on a DVD. It would be great if some of the most popular Linux distributors could get together and agree to resolve these path conflicts by simply putting all of their source files into a top-level root folder with a unique name that has some significance to their company or their specific Linux distro name. Pretty much the idea that is being used to create multi-boot DVDs now. Only if the Linux distributors themselves got behind this initiative themselves it would be so much easier going forward into the future. I would love to put as many distributions of Linux as possible onto a single DVD or even a BLU-RAY disc. But right now my knowledge is very limited. However, the research I have done so far on creating a multi-boot linux disc leads me to believe that path conflicts on the source media(CD, DVD, FLASH Drive, whatever) path during installation are the number one hurdle.

AFAIK, the major hurdle is the mwthod of selecting which ISO to boot . For flash drives Multisystem ( http://liveusb.info/dotclear/ ) uses a version of te grub bootloader. Offhand, I am not certain what the various softwares that create multiboot DVDs use.

If you are interested in creating multiboot DVDs, there are several software options mentioned (with lonks) in the comments section of this page of makeuseof.com: http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/recomm ... iboot-dvd/.
