Chromium - Update Flash ???

Post by a4orce84 »

Hey Guys,

Long time Ubuntu user here, made the switch to Linux Mint a few weeks ago. Every-time I use Chrome, it says the plugin is out-of-date, and to go download the update. However, after trying a variety of things, the message remains.

Are there any tips or tricks to updating flash in Chrome / Chromium permanently?

Thanks,

On what site do you get this message? I never run into flash issues with Chrome or Chromium.

Facebook, youtube, etc.

Pretty much anything that uses flash.

Which specific distro/spin of Mint are you using and how did you install Chrome?

I download a chrome .deb from here https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ - it works perfectly on Mint 14 Cinnamon. I've also tried Chromium from the repos which works perfectly too.

Type about://plugins in the address bar. You'll see a list of Flash runtimes the browser knows about. Disable all but the latest.

Chrome updates Flash for you (current is 11.5). In Chromium, you're stuck with 11.2 -- workaround here. (arch wiki)

The up to date PPAPI flash is NOT included in Chromium, but only in Chrome (because it is proprietary software, same as the integrated PDF viewer).
Long story short, the only way to run a current version of Flash under Linux is to install Google Chrome (the deb- packages from Google work fine with LinuxMint)

-Extract.
(libflashplayer.so locate /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins)

http://packages.linuxmint.com/ here you will find your Mintflash download the .deb and open up with Gdebi..

by the way , if you use google chrome it self you download it, it made a repo in your source list so every new version it updates by the way and chrome has build in Flash and other codecs. even yu dont have flash you can play flash.. Chromium is more stripped and uses system native dependeces....
