Re: Quick Build Advice please
There is way too much AMD on your list for me to be comfortable with having an opinion on, but are you sure it is your motherboard that is defective? It often is the power supply, as that has to take the brunt of daily abuse in a computer.
Re: Quick Build Advice please
Power supply is fine, I think its the capacitors which is what this board is prone to failing. Besides its got AMD's Athlon 64 2100+ with geforce 6100 graphics. I think a upgrade wouldn't hurt lol and the other option is an i3 maybe
Re: Quick Build Advice please
Do your case like this one : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
you can try change the capacitor first. Sometime that's works.
for $150 ,Maybe :
Dual core Intel Pentium Sandybridge ( core i3 is better option ), Intel/MSI LGA 1155 board and 4 GB DDR3 RAM
If you don't use 3d , i think intel graphic is the best option for linux.
My main system is :
LM14 cinnamon work's fine.( i didn't play games anymore )

Re: Quick Build Advice please
I will run some games like the new simcity if I can get a dual boot working with my old Windows xp, having no money for upgrades pushed me into pocket gaming. Plus the AMD's price is more enticing.
I know the intel is a better cpu but I don't encode often (rarely) and mostly surf the web and watch youtube. I run two old AMD's both with old Nvidia graphics, so how bad can new drivers really be?
