I'm using Mint 14 with Cinnamon. I used to use GNOME2, but abandoned that after the GNOME Shell came out (an abomination - horrible, horrible interface). Before Cinnamon, I tried XFCE4 & KDE, but I've never got on with either of these as I can't set up the fonts the way I like. My only gripe with Cinnamon is that customising the launcher panel is a bit of a pain. (I don't have short cuts on my desktop. I don't like the clutter.) I'd much rather it allowed adjusting the icons spacing and separators.
I switched to MATE to see what it was like. So far, so good. Very traditional and stable. No more oddities like randomly losing permissions to shut down, mount disks, etc. It's fast too, compared with Cinnamon, GNOME Shell, etc.
