Did the software not show up in the menu after you installed it?

Do you want to know where they are installed or how to run them?

For games try: places - computer - file system - usr - games

Try opening the terminal and typing in the name of the program like gtypist

If it is a program that needs to be run as root open the terminal type su password then try something to run the program for example bastille would require bastille -c to start

As the others stated if you tell use which programs you installed we could help you better. Otherwise we would have to go through all 20,000 pakages in the package manager.

The launcher are usually placed in /usr/bin or /bin.

By typing in the name of the launcher you located in /bin or /usr/bin. Some times you need the full path (like /usr/bin/lspci etc).

I'm having the same problem. Can't find programs after install, tried the tips above to no avail. Didn't have this problem with Ubuntu 7.04. What's wrong ? Install, un-addressed issue with mint? Seems very basic to me that installed programs should be acessable in the program menu. This should happen automatically. Anyone know if PCOS has the same problem? Thanks for any help.
installed: Avast, Clam, airstrike-common,

just tried "/usr/bin/clamscan" in terminal and it scaned only my home folder? so I found that one. No gui? I'll check other thread to see how to use it.

mint 4.0, gigabyte k8ns ultra-939, amd 64fx 3000+, ati 9600 aiw, turtle beach 7.1,
LINUX ROCKS NO MATER WHAT MINOR PROBLEMS COMPARED TO WINDOWS - I couldn't open "my computer" on this same machine with XP. couldn't get it to work at all. Thought hardware was bad until I installed Ubuntu 7.04. Only windows os I ever payed for.
