Missing padlock

Missing padlock

The updates padlock symbol has mysteriously vanished from the taskbar so I can't tell if any new updates are available. How can I get it back? :?

Did you remove the "notification area" try adding it to your panel

That did it. I didn't realise that the notification area icon turns into a padlock. Thanks. :)

It turns into anything that you need notifying of like network connections and laptop battery icons.

One learns something new every day. This is why Windows is so tedious: it just lets you think you're in charge whereas with Linux, for good or ill, you really are. :)
