Missing padlock
The updates padlock symbol has mysteriously vanished from the taskbar so I can't tell if any new updates are available. How can I get it back?

That did it. I didn't realise that the notification area icon turns into a padlock. Thanks.

It turns into anything that you need notifying of like network connections and laptop battery icons.
