(solved) Mint 14/XFCE dns server not being accpted

Post by end user »

Having an issues with changing DNS server and having them accpeted by the system on my wireless. I'm using UnoDNS.

What I do is get two of their DNS servers listed here http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/global I select the US west coast ones

I edit my network connection and put in both IP's seperated by a comma - 206.214.214.28, 184.169.139.227, I also tried it with one IP.

I flush the DNS and restart networking and even rebooted but can't get the system to accept the dns servers. I test it out with this page http://www.unotelly.com/quickstart2/index.php

These setting work fine with Mate and KDE but one two seperate machines both with Mint 14 XFCE can't get the DNS servers to work.

This is what I get listed

$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 127.0.1.1

# OpenDNS Fallback (configured by Linux Mint in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/tail).
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

Well I installed WICD and with it I can change the DNS servers and the settings do get accepted although for some reason it won't always connect to my wireless.

Ok figured it out. You have to select Automatic (DHCP) addresses only.
