Trouble with Opera

Dear All,
I am running XFCE on my box, but the problem has nothing to do with the specific desktop.
I use Opera as my browser and email client (from the standard Mint Debian repos).
Even before the latest update, opera used to freeze very often after being started. The latest upgrade did not help and not it is practically unusable.
I tried to reinstall it, but it did not help.
Anybody else experiencing the same problem?
Any suggestion is welcome.

Reinstalling Opera doesn't overwrite the existing config file. That is probably where your problem is. Try removing Opera, then delete (or rename) the .opera folder and then reinstall Opera. This will cause Opera to create a new config folder.

I haven't used XFCE, so I'm not sure how it handles hidden folders. The .opera folder is a normally hidden folder located directly under your home folder [/home/username/.opera].

I have the same Problem between two versions of opera 1- for mint and othere Debian or ubuntu for over a week I have not been able to remove opera, reinstall old install with ubuntu-software center or gdebi install or dpkg. I like opera as it is cross Platform (Windows, Any linux, Android, Nokia..etc...)

Hi,
What is that supposed to mean? Here things have improved in the sense that, if start opera disabling the email (opera -nomail), then it does not crash/freeze any longer. However, I like opera precisely for its in-built mail client!

It still means that if my Opera gets hijacked it spreads to all my devices and Partitions!
I run clamtk and clamav and find that opera and firefox (a little less) are set aside as suspects to Malware!
