Chromium Flash error...

Postby Fugazi on Sun Dec 30, 2012 5:33 pm

This is annoying as I have fixed it on other machines:

I have just installed Mint 11 on an old box and I use Chromium as my browser, but it is giving me the "Oi, your flash is old and you should feel bad" error message (I may be quoting the message wrong, but you get the idea). The trouble is I use Chromium on my other Mint 11 install, and on an ancient Xubuntu install and I've fixed this problem in the past... but how? I remember with Xubuntu I moved a file into a Chromium folder somewhere, but which file and which folder? I don't remember having a problem on the old, stable, Mint 11 install. I've installed the Flash plugin from the Ubuntu repository to no avail. My current solution is to load Chromium with the --sod-off-warning-me-about-out-of-date-plugins bit.

Any ideas?

I volunteer with a non-profit, and the issues with Flash have been an endless headache. Ubuntu or Xubuntu will complain that the Flash is out of date, and sadly Adobe won't release any new versions for Linux, except a version for Chrome (not Chromium) 64-bit only.

All I can offer is to wait for HTML5 to overtake Flash. I've installed Gnash for firefox, but the framerate is awful, so I don't recommend it unless you're desperate to get rid of that warning.

Chromium is fantastic on the same OS (Mint 11) but on this new install I can't remember the solution.

If anyone knows the solution, please post, otherwise I'll keep trying to work it out.

Matt.

I think the solution you remember was to copy the Chrome's pepper flash to the proper place for Chromium. http://www.webupd8.org/2012/09/how-to-m ... layer.html is one of the places which outline the procedure.

P.S. The correct flash plugin version from the Chrome I am using today is 11.5.31.135 not the 11.3.31.323 listed in the article. You will probably have to update this manually each time Chrome changes.
