Mageia 2??

Post by podagee »

i have had the Mageia 2 32bit dvd for a while and i finally had the chance to install it on an external harddrive.the most catchy thing about it was the custom option for D.E choices,Gnome,KDE,or LXDE.it installed in about 35 minutes with all three desktops selected.the install for my bcm4312 wasnt too hard but its a bit confusing to get it working and am still having issues with the wifi.overall desktop performances in my opinion, nothing too flashy or catchy to keep me on it.also wondering how it is 2nd on distrowatch.com?it aint all that great.in my opinion.its also heavy, meaning it takes a really long time to load and shutdown.my rating on a 1-10,i give it a 3.sorry Mageia team.

I keep an install of Mageia KDE on my machine and I kinda like it. Sure it's a bit slow to boot, but it's remarkably stable and they have left KDE in a fairly vanilla state (unlike relatives like PCLOS, ROSA and Mandriva). I'd have no problem recommending it to a linux newcomer.

Not sure of why it leapt to near the top of the heap on DW, but I suspect some "fan activity" rather than actual widespread interest was the cause. It seems to have stopped rising as of late.

I'd give Mageia 2 (KDE) an overall grade of maybe 5-7 - mostly for newbie friendliness and stability.

i agree with stability and nebie use, but, that vanilla look aint too impressive to me.for stability i was with opensuse 12.2 kde.it was very, very awesome.only problem was when i upgraded that kde to the latest,it hid my mint 14 partitions from which was a pain,so,i took opensuse off.for kde i recommend opensuse or mint,as we all know mint is one of the most user friendly distributions.
Mageia is a pain with the drivers and its wireless connection.

Mageia 2 is not bad. I installed for a while the 64 bit version and it works really very well, sometimes it is a problem with the updates. But with KDE version of Mageia really works great, the greatest strength has Mageia is that is very friendly to a user with little knowledge ......

I downloaded Mageia 3 Beta 1, still has little new, but I find that when launched will be much better than the 2, runs a little faster. Mageia 1 probe and was also a disaster. Has improved tremendously the Mageia 2.-
