Hello,
I recently installed Mint on both my laptop and desktop after running the Windows 8 Developer Preview through its usable lifespan. After many semi-failed attempts at running Ubuntu, OpenSuse, and other distros, I can say that Mint is the first distro to give me nearly no issues with installation and setup, especially on my custom caseless desktop composed of a mish-mosh of parts . I'm glad to be a part of this great community!

Welcome and yep pretty much non-issue install for me also. Tho wifi connection is a little less robust under mint then the win7 side. But everything worked out of the box.

I found Mint easier to install and configure than Windows 7, to my surprise. All the devices just work right away or without much effort. Only thing that gave me trouble was configuring the home network, but doing so in Linux was actually easier than doing the same in Windows 7, which puts all sorts of roadblocks in the way.spynoodle wrote:Hello,

Rule of thumb:
If you're going to install Windows, set aside a day or two.
If you're going to install Linux, set aside a lunch break. You'll be done by the time lunch is over.

Welcome aboard A caseless desktop? So everything really worked out of the box

Yeah, it did take me a little while to install the right closed-source driver, although it has gotten a lot better in recent versions of Linux. It used to be a nightmare with Ubuntu 9.04.Orbmiser wrote:Welcome and yep pretty much non-issue install for me also. Tho wifi connection is a little less robust under mint then the win7 side. Thanks!The-Wizard wrote:Welcome to the Mint family forums

Haha, yeah. I had a lot of extra shelf space next to my desk that a full ATX case wouldn't quite fit on, so I figured I'd just lay everything out on the shelf.xenopeek wrote:Welcome aboard A caseless desktop? So everything really worked out of the box
